The DSA Raptors Boys Basketball team beat DSA-OKC in Oklahoma City 53-38. The win marked the first time in the school's history that the team from Tulsa beat their counterparts. The Raptors started the first quarter hot leading 18-5. Freshman Deshaun Jackson steadily ran the offense and Freshman Dale Hammer hit 2 big early 3 pointers. In the second quarter Freshman Brandon Payne asserted himself on both offense and defense. He finished the game with 9 points and game high 5 steals. In the third quarter the defense really shined, thanks in large part to the upper classman. Junior Julio Perez played lockdown defense and Seniors Acey Jones, Aaron Ballard, and Ethan Sack contributed big with block shoots and rebounds. Throughout the game no player was bigger than Senior Lee Carter. Lee posted his second double-double of the season posting 10 points and 10 rebounds and dominating the game with 5 blocked shots. The Raptors took the lead into the forth quarter and kept it with ball control and more scoring. Freshamn Dameyan Lyons swooped in with twice with nice driving scores and Freshman Tyler Suder scored on a layup and knocked down 2 key free throws ending with a game high in points with 13. The DSA Raptors moved their season record to 7-10 and have 2 more regular season games remaining before a district tournament matchup with Olive on Friday February 12th.
Donate Your Old Cell Phone
Discarded cell phones account for nearly 65,000 tons of toxic waste each year. Cell phone recycling is critical because each cell phone can pollute up to 132,000 liters of water.
More than 500 million unwanted cell phones are either awaiting disposal in the home, or seeping hazardous lead, mercury, cadmium, brominated flame retardants, and arsenic into the environment. And with new features available every year, a cell phone's average life is now less than 18 months, adding more than 125 million cell phones (and their batteries) to our landfills each year — or 2 million toxic mobile phones dumped each week. Because the United States has yet to establish federal regulations requiring mobile phone recycling, donating or recycling cell phones is at less than 1 percent.
